An Open Letter

To all Squirrels at River Legacy Park,

PLEASE STOP running in front of my bike tires! I know you think it's funny, but I DON'T! You scare the living daylights out of me! You have hundreds of acres; please leave me and my eight feet of concrete in peace. Besides, is it really worth risking death or dismemberment for that one last acorn on the trail? Could we exercise a little bit of temperance maybe?

Signed,
The Management (sort of)

I agree! I also want to add that you squirrels must stop running out in front of my car! One of these days I'm going to run a bicycler over when swerving to miss you!

I don't know, Marcia. The squirrels around here are pretty tough. They would consider you running over them to be nothing more than a back-rub.

We have squirrels ad nauseum in our neighborhood, which is older and has very big trees.

They actually sit on my garage roof and "yell" at me when I leave the house to go somewhere. They are nervy little critters.

We rescued one that had fallen from its nest after a hurricane. So young its eyes were still shut, we went online and learned to feed it thru a syringe. Little booger would sleep head down in our shirt pockets. After awhile we taught it to fend for itself by letting it go for romps in the yard. Eventually she stopped coming home at night, but would still run down the tree and sit on your shoulder if you called her name.
