My thoughts today
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

That fits with the movie I watched with my fellowship group last night: Pilgrim's Progress. It was a cheezy film, and yet good. Covicting and interesting.
In fact I was thinking of this very verse today. Make your election, the truth that God chose you before the foundation of the world, sure.
I think for the most I'm blessed with assurance, and can be very confident in the promises of Christ. But when I fall off the path and find myself less spiritual then I should be, I become confused and doubtful, yet not completely rebellious, thank the Lord.
If a sinner like me could fall away, then it will no doubt happen. But if the truth is that no man, nor anything angel, can pluck me away from my Savior, and from the Father in heaven, then I couldn't possibly be any securer in my souls' salvation, and calling.
